Ingredients:
1 pkg. (8 oz.) elbow macaroni
1 pt. cottage cheese
1 med. onion, chopped
2 Tbls. cooking oil
1 1/2 lb. hamburger
1 tsp. salt
2 Tbls. flour
8 oz. can tomato sauce
1 tsp. Italian salad dressing
1/2 lb. (2 C.) shredded American cheese
buttered bread crumbs
Instructions:
Cook macaroni and combine with cottage cheese. Sauté onion in oil, add hamburger and cook until lightly brown. Stir in flour, Italian dressing, salt, tomato sauce and cook 3 to 4 minutes. Combining in layers, pour 1/3 of meat mixture into 2 quart casserole. Top with 1/2 of macaroni/cottage cheese mixture, then 1/2 of shredded cheese. Repeat with 1/3 of sauce, remaining macaroni/cottage cheese mixture, then remaining shredded cheese. Top with the remaining 1/3 sauce. Sprinkle buttered bread crumbs on top. Bake uncovered at 325º for 45 minutes. Let stand for 15 minutes before serving. Makes 6 to 8 servings.
